Agnes D. Schlief was born on March 26, 1923 in Comfrey, MN the daughter of William Elizabeth (Beckius) Schlief. She grew up near Comfrey and attended District #63 Country School. After she completed her schooling, Agnes worked in the housekeeping department at the Sleepy Eye Medical Center for 25 years. Agnes married Ethelbert J. Mathiowetz on November 22, 1968 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye. Agnes was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Sleepy Eye VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, embroidering, playing bingo, cooking and visiting with relatives and friends. Survivors include her sister, Alice Anderson on Neligh, NE, brother-in-law, Tony wife Phyllis Mathiowetz of Hopkins, sisters-in-law, Winnifred Mathiowetz and Ida Mathiowetz, both of Comfrey, Marie Cook, Rose Mathiowetz, and Mary Mathiowetz, all of Sleepy Eye, Lucille Mathiowetz of Springfield and Arlene Ebilsisor of New Ulm. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ethelbert, and sisters, Catherine Lutter and Minnie Schlief.
