Afrom Zimmer, the son of Gustav and Louise (Hempeck) Zimmer was born at Mountain Lake, MN on October 2, 1923. He grew up and attended school in Mountain Lake. Afrom was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. Following his education he worked for area farmers until entering the Army Air Corp on May 14, 1944. He served with the 37th and 88th Military Police Co. in Germany until his discharge on June 29, 1946. On June 20, 1948 Afrom was united in marriage to Alice Dora Willaby in Comfrey, MN. He worked in various garages as a mechanic, for Harry Wedel, and for Strubel and Penner Implement. In 1955 he began farming at Comfrey, before moving to Bertha, MN, returning to Comfrey after 15 years, and then to a farm NE of Storden, MN until retiring in 1996 when they moved to Windom, MN. Afrom died on Saturday, November 07, 2009 at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Community in Windom. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alice on April 22, 2009; three sons, one in infancy, Douglas Zimmer and Allen Zimmer;an infant daughter, Jodi Zimmer; four sisters, two in infancy and Emma and Antonia; and a brother, Herb. He is survived by a daughter, Tammy Crowell and husband Chad of Windom; three sons, Gordon Zimmer and wife Vicki, Donald Zimmer and wife Deb, and Thomas Zimmer and wife Dawn, all of Windom; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
