Adeline Florence Anderson

Adeline Florence Anderson was born on April 19, 1928 in Moscow Township, rural Langdon, ND to Henry and Sarah (Buller) Bartel. The youngest of six children, she attended country school and Langdon High School. She was valedictorian of her class. She attended Grace Bible Institute, Omaha, NE and after graduating taught at Bethany Christian High School in Munich, ND. She attended Wheaton College in Illinois and met her future husband while on a college break in Minnesota. She received Bachelor of Science with Honor and Bachelor of Student Chapel Records degrees in 1958. She worked in Freeman, South Dakota, teaching biology and other subjects at Freeman Academy for about 2 years. On October 5, 1962 Adeline married Garland Anderson in the Swiss Mennonite Church in Alsen, ND. Together they farmed near Madelia until 2001, when they retired. Garland died in 2006 and the youngest of their 3 children, Jennifer, died in 2016. Adeline was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia, serving in church council positions, ladies groups, choir and as a Sunday School teacher. She was a Luther Memorial Home delegate and more recently would lead devotions in that nursing home. She shared her love of God and knowledge of His Word and had much inner strength, kindness, and generosity. She enjoyed gardening, reading books and newspapers, crosswords, visiting with family and friends, music and singing, bird watching, and taking care of pets, plants, and family with much love and devotion. Adeline Florence Anderson, age 91, of Madelia, MN died on March 5, 2020 at the Madelia Community Hospital. Adeline is survived by 2 children: daughter Audrey and son Glenn, both of Madelia; sisters-in-law, Lucille Anderson, Luella Schofield, Elfriede Anderson, Marlys (Lou) Johnson, Marion Bartel; brother-in-law, Herman (Betty) Anderson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland, daughter Jennifer and siblings Agnes Spenst, Evelyn Toews, Alvin, Paul, and Emil Luverne.
