Velma Leona Disque was born November 19, 1913, in Blairsburg, IA, the daughter of Robert Sr. and Effie (Hoffmann) Moore. She was confirmed in 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield and graduated from Lamberton High School in 1932. Velma was united in marriage to August Disque on October 20, 1934, in Wanda. The couple lived most of their lives in Sleepy Eye, where Velma worked as a cook at the City Cafe for over 25 years. Velma was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother and was known as Granny to all the people that she touched in her special, unconditional, loving way. Among all the favorite memories will be her delicious chocolate chip cookies that she stirred with love and baked so uniquely with the warmth of her heart. Velma enjoyed crocheting, quilting, search words, reading poetry, and most of all, spending time with her children and their families. Velma Leona Disque died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the Waseca Medical Center at the age of 95 years and will forever live in our memories and permanently take residence in our hearts. She is survived by her children: Richard and wife Phyllis Disque of Forest City, IA; Marj Balfany of Lamberton; Eugene and wife Jeanette Disque of Phoenix, AZ; Janice and husband Alfred Schmitz of Sleepy Eye; Carol and husband Jim Heinrich of Medford; and Jenny and husband Bruce Johnson of Waseca; son in law Arthur Dietz of Markasan, WI; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters- Myrtle and John Kruse of New Ulm; Ruby and Glenn McCoy of Vesta; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband August; daughter Violet; infant son Roger; grandson James Dietz; brothers - Victor and wives Lorna and Sylvia; Robert Jr. and wife Laura; sister - Aletha and husband Agner Winseth; and son-in-law Neal Balfany.
