Thomas "Tom" or "Butch" Charles McMonagle was born on January 14, 1952 to Eugene Pahl and Helen Lucille (Larkin) McMonagle in Fairmont, MN. He was raised near Madelia, MN, on the family farm, and graduated from Madelia High School in 1970. On August 25, 1979, he married the love of his life, Karen Lynn (Christenson) McMonagle. The couple remained married until Karen's passing in January of this year. Following his graduation from High School, Tom spent one year at Mankato State University and was a member of the University football team. He ultimately put his education on hiatus in lieu of military service. Tom enlisted in the Army, and spent approximately 27 years enlisted in the Army, Army - National Guard, and Naval Reserve, and was dedicated to and proud of his lifelong service to his Country. He later resumed his education, earning a bachelor's degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He was employed, until his retirement, as letter carrier with the United States Post Office out of Mankato, working over 20 years in that capacity. Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Tom and Karen devoted much of their time raising their three children, Sean, Daniel, and Tyler. He coached many youth sports in support of his children and ran the local Cub Scout Troop for many years as well. In his free time, he loved spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and calling wild boar. He loved watching and supporting his children and grandchildren grow and learn. More than anything he loved his wife Karen, and diligently took care to ensure she was loved, and that her needs were met as she dealt with multiple health concerns. He will be remembered by all who knew him, as he had a large and unique personality that made him impossible to forget. Tom is survived by his children, Sean, Daniel (Megan), Tyler (Kaylie); grandchildren, Grady, Raymond, Desmond and Adeline; siblings, Phillip (Katherine), Kate, Timothy and John; siblings-in-law, Kathy Guyer, Mark and Jan Christenson, and Paul Christenson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; his parents, Helen and Eugene McMonagle; parents-in-law, C. John and Theoris Christenson; brother-in-law, Al Guyer, and sister-in-law, Deb Christenson. Tom will be missed by those who loved and knew him.
