Sylvester Albert Schroepfer was born on December 21, 1924 on the family farm, rural Sleepy Eye, MN to Frank and Theresa (Seidl) Schroepfer. He attended country school District #15 through 6th grade and then St. Mary's Catholic School. He enlisted in the US Navy in May of 1944, serving 21 months on Guam with the Seabees. After his discharge he did some carpentry work, Marshall-Wells Hardware Store, Cargill, SE Grain and Feed and Farmers Elevator until he retired in 1986. Sylvester married Pearl Grindall on June 4, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, KCs, Catholic Aid, American Legion, VFW, Sleepy Eye Honor Guard since the time it was formed, SE Drum and Bugle Corp for 7 years and served as Commander of the American Legion Post and other offices. Vesty was a former member of Stark and Leavenworth Baseball teams before serving in the Navy. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, traveling, making sauerkraut and dumplings for his family. He was a Twins and Vikings fan, loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He helped with the Men's Sauerkraut Dinner and was in charge of the Mulligan Stew on Veterans Day for many years. Vesty was truly loved for his one liners and his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Pearl of Sleepy Eye, children, Gary (Bambi) of Tucson, AZ, Jill (Gary) Krause of Rapid City, SD, Russell (Vickie) of Sleepy Eye, Judy (Allen) Schueler of Sleepy Eye, 7 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 1 foster grandchild, 14 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, 2 foster great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Arlene Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye, brother-in-law, Doug (Marlys) Grindall of International Falls, step sister-in-law, Beverly Simonsen of Sleepy Eye and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, baby granddaughter, Michelle Schroepfer, brothers, Felix (Amelia), Walter (Melanie), Clement (Clara), Edward (Clara), Albert (Loretta), Raymond (Marcella), Florian (Fronnie), Jerome, sisters, Lorraine (Edwin) Weiss, Agnes (Edwin) Tauer, Rosella (James) Hillesheim and father and mother-in-law, Francis and Rose Grindall.
