Stan McCone was born on June 30th, 1944, in Carroll, IA, to Dale and Phyllis McCone. He graduated from Manilla High School in 1962 and worked 25 years for IBP as a cattle buyer. In 1970, he married Virginia Bausch, and they settled at a farm site near Sanborn, MN. As a visionary, a businessman, and a history lover, Stans adventures were many. Over the years, he raised roses, strawberries, asparagus, and mushrooms. He built sod houses and restored the prairie around them (Sod House on the Prairie). Stan also started his own door-to-door truck and fundraiser business (McCone Foods). Stan is survived by his wife, Virginia, and five children and their spouses: Christy and Chad Heckathorn of Elk Point, SD, Benton and Zeenath McCone of Plymouth, MN, Charlie and Heidi McCone of Sanborn, MN, Steve and Thea McCone of Sanborn, MN, and Tom and Mikaela McCone of Pemberton, MN. His grandchildren are Mariah, Jack, and Carter Heckathorn; Maddie, Lilly, Emmie, Julie, and Lincoln McCone; Bentley and Houston McCone; and Hazel and Maeve McCone. He is also survived by two sisters, Pam Hall and Patti Muhlbauer of Manilla, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Phyllis McCone. Stans hope was in the promise of the verse Philippians 1:21. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
