Ruth Hornick

Ruth Caravanna was born on February 12, 1917 in Sleepy Eye, MN, the daughter of James, Jr. Vesta (Sherman) Murphy. She attended Sleepy Eye Public School and graduated in 1935. Ruth married Alfred Warner Meyer on July 11, 1938, they divorced in 1947. She married Albert L. Hornick on August 26, 1952. The couple made their home and farmed in Mulligan Township, near Leavenworth. Ruth and Albert moved to Comfrey when they retired. Albert preceded her in death in 1984. After the tornado in Comfrey, Ruth moved to Sleepy Eye. She was employed at Our Own Hardware in Sleepy Eye, Gambles Store Liqour Store in Comfrey, volunteered at the Sleepy Eye Museum and did research for the Brown County Historical-Research Library. She attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. Ruth was active in the New Ulm German Bohemian Club, American Legion Auxiliary in Comfrey and family historian, doing research for well over 50 families. She loved to play solitaire, reading and spending time with her family. She also was a expert seamstress, enjoyed the MN Twins and attending her grandchildrens activities. Ruth C. Hornick, 90, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Monday, January 21, 2008 at Sleepy Eye Care Center. She will be sadly missed by her children, Judith (Lynn) Remus of Sleepy Eye, Douglas (Donna) Meyer of Detroit Lakes, MN, grandchildren, David (Wendy) Remus, Sandra (Rick) Osterday, Robin (Doug) Soyring, great grandchildren, Justin and Kyle Remus, Blane and Clay Osterday and Patrick and Ryan Soyring, sisters, Harriet Lebert of New Ulm, Marian (Doug) Pyan of St. Peter, Ardis (Cletus) Schroepfer of St. Peter, brother, Daniel (Randeen) Murphy of Sleepy Eye and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Jeane (Herbert) Hansen and brother-in-law, Lloyd Lebert.
