Ruth Evers

April 20, 1918 — July 29, 2006

Ruth Adeline Newberg, the daughter of Edgar and Emma (Somers) Newberg was born on April 20, 1918, at Litchfield, MN. She moved with her family to Echols, MN at the age of five, and six years later they moved to a farm northwest of St. James, MN. Ruth received her education at a country school near her home and the St. James High School. On February 22, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to Henry M. Evers at her parents' home. They made their home and farmed in the Comfrey, MN area, where they were active members of Salem Lutheran Church. In 1972, the retired and moved in to St. James, where they joined the First Lutheran Church. Henry died on November 27, 1982. She continued to make her home in St. James until moving to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN on October 14, 2003. Ruth was a member of the Selma Township Home Extension Group in Cottonwood County, an Adult 4-H Leader, a member of the St. James Garden Club and a Sunday School Teacher at Salem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing quilts for all of her family, crochetting blankets for all the new grandchildren when they were born, crocheting afghans for each grandchild at special milestones in their lives, and flower gardening. Ruth died on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at the Springfield Medical Centery in Sprinfield, MN. Ruth is survived by a daughter, Phyllis and husband Allen Hulzebos of Sioux Falls, SD; four sons, James and wife Sofie Evers of Mountain Lake, MN, Jerry and wife Janice Evers of Comfrey, Don and wife Karen Evers of Mesa, AZ, and Darald and wife Mary Evers of Mountain Lake; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; two sisters, Helen Knake of Willmar, MN, and Doraine Starks of St. James; a brother, Richard Newberg of VA; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four grandchildren, Paul Evers, Kimberly Evers, Bonnie Evers and a granddaughter in infancy; two great granddaughters in infancy; a sister, Doris Johnson; and five brothers, Allen, Robert, Ronald, Ned and Douglas Newberg.
