Roger Emmanuel Englin was born in Mt. Lake on August 22, 1943, the son of Harry and Velda (Stark) Englin. Roger grew up on the family farm near Darfur. He was baptized at West Sveadahl Lutheran Church in 1943 and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur in 1958. He graduated from Comfrey High School in 1961. He attended California Lutheran Bible School until he was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1965-1967. Following his military service he returned to the Butterfield area and began farming. On December 16, 1972, Roger was united in marriage to Julie Prochazka at the First Presbyterian Church in St. James. The couple made their home on the farm in rural Butterfield where they raised their daughter and son. Roger served as the Commander for the American Legion Post in Darfur for many years. He also served as an Elder and a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, providing the video ministry for over 20 years. He served on the Adrian Township Board for several years. Roger farmed for many years; he later worked at Westin Automotive in St. James until 2007. In his younger years he enjoyed raising and showing Morgan horses. Roger was diagnosed with cancer in May 2008. During the past five years, while receiving chemotherapy treatment, his dream was to purchase and restore an antique tractor. His project gave him great pleasure, and he enjoyed taking his restored 1936 John Deere B to antique plowing events, and driving out to get the mail at home. Roger is survived by his wife Julie of Butterfield; children, Amber Missling of Mankato, Adam Englin of Butterfield and special friend Katie Trebesch; his siblings, Lily Atwel of Brainerd, David (Ruth) Englin of Comfrey, Bruce (Diane) Englin of Butterfield, James (Susan) Englin of Rapid City, SD, Elizabeth Englin of Mankato, Eloise (David) Wetlesen of Colorado Springs, CO, Keith (Tammy) Englin of Bruce, SD, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Emily. The family gratefully acknowledges the excellent care Roger received at Sanford Cancer Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., and at Windom Area Hospital.
