Rhoda Dreke

Rhoda Elaine Hoiosen was born October 15, 1921, at Hoving, ND, the daughter of Ole Inga (Stockstad) Hoiosen. She was baptized December 26, 1921 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Sargent County, ND, and confirmed May 6, 1936, at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Madelia. Rhoda attended public school in Madelia and graduated from Madelia High School in 1939. On June 12, 1941, she was united in marriage to Millard Dreke in Madelia. Rhoda worked as secretary for the Superintendent of Madelia Public Schools for 2 years and the Selective Service office until June 1942, when she moved to San Diego, CA, as her husband was stationed at Camp La Mesa, CA. Their son, Larry, was born in San Diego November 1942. When her husband was transferred to Camp White, OR, Rhoda taught shorthand, typing, bookkeeping, and physical ED at Jacksonville High School, Jacksonville, OR. In June, 1944, she moved back to St. James as Millard went overseas. From its beginning Rhoda played an instrumental role in the family business, Dreke's Photo Service and Music Store in St. James. Along with the store, she worked as a bookkeeper/Secretary from 1965-1971 for William R Manning and 1971-1976 she worked at Mayberry Realty. She worked for Roadway's Constriction Inc. from September 1976 to February 1987. Rhoda enjoyed her retirement, she also enjoyed reading, crocheting, camping, and traveling, having visited all 50 States. 1n 1965, she went with her family to Alaska. They spent their fortieth wedding anniversary in Hawaii in 1981. Her happiest times were traveling with her children in the trailer in the summers. She is survived by her children; Larry Dreke his wife Ligia, sons; Greg, Scott, daughters; Tiff, Jenna, step-daughter; Melissa, step-son; Nelson and 9 grandchildren, Gary Dreke his wife Jan, daughter; Amy and Heather Dreke Sells and son Steve Poppelwell and his wife Tiffany, daughter; Shirley Dreke Ring, her daughter husband and grandchildren.
