Orville D. Hanson was born June 25, 1921, the son of Henry and Anne (VanBockern) Hanson. He married Jeanne Feeken on June 17, 1956 in Comfrey. To this union were born: son - James D. Hanson and daughter - June R. Hanson. He lived a lifetime of service to his country, community, and family. He served in the Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946. He saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and on to the Austrian front at the close of the war. Orville served 30 years on the Bashaw Township Board, 1956 - 1986 most of these years as chairman. He served 15 years on the Comfrey Hospital Board, 1967 - 1982 during this time the hospital expanded its facility to the south and east. Orville also served on the organizational board of the Region Nine Development Commission and served for 14 years. He was a lifetime member of the UCC Congregational Church in Comfrey. Orville loved farming, family, and sports. His love, care, and concern of God's world was so evident. He taught his family, by example, to appreciate those values. Orville died on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years - Jeanne of Comfrey; his son - James and wife Jeri Hanson of Comfrey; daughter - June of New Jersey; 2 grandsons - Aaron and Adam his wife Katie; 2 granddaughters - Jody and Jamie; and 2 sisters - Jean Bednar and Joyce Frank. He is preceded in death by his parents.
