Norman Beck, age 88, of St. James died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Funeral services will be 10:00am, Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Martin Lopahs officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Norman Louis Beck was born October 9, 1924, in Clear lake, MN, the son of Louis Emeline (Miller) Beck. Norm grew up on the family farm, graduated from St. James High School in 1944. On March 12, 1949, Norm was united in marriage to Mildred Quick in St. James. Church was important to Norm, he served on the Church Council as Secretary, Treasurer, Stewardship Elder and cemetery board member. Norm served as chairman of the Watonwan DFL for 12 years, 2nd District DFL vice chair, St. James Township Board treasurer for 42 years and was a director on the South Central Electric Assn. for 20 years serving as president for 9 years. Norm was a lifelong farmer, he enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, football and Twins baseball. Norman is survived by his wife; Mildred Beck of St. James, daughters; Cindy Beck of Brooklyn Park, Peggy Beck of Eden Prairie, son; Paul (Sheila) Beck of Wauwatosa, Wisc., grandchildren; Ian Beck and Lauren Beck, sister; Phyllis Lunz of St. James, and a brother; Darwin (Shari) Beck of Aitkin. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother; Reyldon and sister; Geneva Anderson. Visitation 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday, October 19, 2012 Sturm Funeral Home, St. James 906 10th Ave. S.
