Nayne Peterson

July 19, 1954 — February 4, 2023

Nayne Peterson, 68, of Madelia, passed away peacefully from heart disease on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his wife and children.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Nayne LaRoy Peterson was born on July 19, 1954 to Vivian and Duane Peterson in Madelia. The oldest of six children, he grew up in Madelia and graduated from Madelia High School in 1972. He served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974 and spent time stationed in Germany. He then worked for 10 years at Peterson Carpet Craft with his dad.

On September 27, 1980 he was united in marriage to Karen Nundahl at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Madelia. In 1985 they purchased her grandparents’ former farmhouse. Through the years, as time and money allowed, they completed many renovations together. It was this old house that they transformed into a cozy home where they raised their three children.

For 33 years Nayne was a pressman at House of Print where he was proficient, reliable and always punctual. He was a hard worker who rarely complained about the constantly changing and extra shifts because it meant providing for his family.

In 2017, one week before his long-awaited retirement, he was in a solo motorcycle accident. This would be only the beginning of many serious health related issues. It was his resilience, determination and dislike for hospitals that helped him recover time and time again.

His family was very grateful for the support from the wonderful hospice nurses, Ashley and Stacy, who assisted in making it possible for him to spend his last months at home.

Nayne was a quiet, soft spoken man but he always knew when to speak up. Although it wasn’t always apparent by his exterior, he was easygoing with a dry sense of humor. He was very much a homebody who enjoyed the simple things in life: drinking coffee on his deck, watching tv, following the Vikings, napping in his recliner, playing games on the computer, home repair and handyman tasks, deer hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle with his best friend on the back and spending time with his kids and grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; his daughters, April Peterson and Abby (Adam Laidig) Peterson; his son, Jacob (Cori) Peterson; his grandsons, Harvey, Wendall and Rowan Peterson; his cat, Miss Kitty; his brothers, Ted (Eunice) Peterson and Mitch Peterson; his sisters, Kristine (Jayme) Frank and Cindy Peterson; and many extended relatives and friends.

Nayne was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Kennedy and Duane Peterson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Katie and Harvey Nundahl; his brother, Tom Peterson; his sister-in-law and her husband, Laurie and John Harris; his niece, Jennifer Arnold; his nephew, Travis Lang; and other relatives and friends.
