Myrtle Justina Fast was born on February 22, 1920 in the family barn in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, MN to John and Justina (Klassen) Fast. She attended country school through the 8th grade and then took a year off. She graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1940 where she played in the band for the 1939 state basketball championship. Myrtle attended Bible School in Mountain Lake (Christian School) for two years. She was saved and baptized at age 16 at the Bethel Church. She attended the Carson Church in Delft. On October 13, 1946 she was united in marriage to Abe F. Schultz at the Carson Mennonite Church in Delft. They attended the EMB/Cornerstone Church, rural Mountain Lake. To this union, six children were born. Growing up on the farm, there were always things to do. They had a large apple orchard, a big garden, milk cows, livestock to feed and chickens. Myrtle loved taking care of the chickens and sold the eggs to Frode Jensen. Later in life, she worked for the Good Samaritan Society as an evening cook for many years. After she retired, she volunteered at the Care and Share and at the Heritage Village in the house as a clerk. Myrtle is survived by her children, Delmar (Carol) Schultz of Mountain Lake, Bernice Schultz of Oahu, HI, Wilmar (Paulette) Schultz of Apopka, FL, Marilyn (Larry) Penner of Bingham Lake, David (Debbie) Schultz of Lennox, SD; daughter-in-law, Cindy Schultz of Wilbur, NE; grandchildren, Barry and Becky Schultz, Sherry and Camden Hofer,Danny and Chandra Schultz, Kelly and Caleb Brown, Dustin and Jessica Schultz, Tim and Tonya Ratliff, Jason and Kristyn Schultz; and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Abe; and her son, Homar.
