Myra Hockel, age 92, of Odin, MN, died on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia. Mrya Geske was born August 22, 1918, to Albert and Hattie (Rieke) Geske at their farm home in Brown County, Minnesota. She was baptized October 1, 1918. She attended country school at Dist. 14, rural New Ulm, through the eighth grade. Myra married Harland Werner and was widowed about eight years later. On September 22, 1951, she was united in marriage to Ordean Hockel. The couple made their home farming in rural Odin. Myra worked many years at Tony Downs in Butterfield. After retiring Myra and Ordean moved to Odin, where she lived several years after Ordean's death. In November 2008, Myra moved to Orchard Hill Assisted Living, New Ulm, until failing health required her to move to Oakhill's Nursing Home, New Ulm. Myra was an active member at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Garden Club and Farmer's Club, Family and friends were a very important part of Myra's everyday life. She and Ordean anxiously looked forward to traveling to their winter home in Arizona. Here they spent warm times with family and friends from Minnesota and nurtured and cherished many new friendships. Myra was know for her wonderful baking and selfless care giving. Her hobbies included braiding hangers, gardening and crocheting. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Hattie Geske, husbands, Harland Werner and Ordean Hockel, sisters Pearl Alfred and Virginia Alfred, brothers-in-law,Edward Alfred, Robert Alfred, Earl Moll, and Harlin Hockel, sister-in-law, Celista Hockel. Myra is survived by sisters, Ruth (Armond) Moll, Evalyn Moll and brother Lyle (Pat) Geske, brother/sister-in-law, Bernie and Beverly Hockel and many nieces and nephews.
