Melvin Moon Edward Steinke, age 80 of Sleepy Eye, MN died peacefully in his sleep January 16 2009 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. Melvin Edward Steinke was raised in a cabinetmaker's shop working beside his brother and father for the majority of his life. He became a Master Cabinet Maker working also in construction and general woodworking. He graduated from Springfield High School where he enjoyed playing football. He met Jane Pulkrabek in Springfield MN where they had two sons. He served as an ordnance repair soldier in Germany during the Korean war. His hobbies included crossword puzzles, watching football, baseball, reading, being the champ when playing Uno with his grandchildren, helping others fix things and most of all socializing at the Serviceman's Club and Meyer's. His only surviving son is not able to travel now due to a surgery so the family will be having a memorial service later in the spring when it is easier for all to get around. A special thanks goes out to his great friends Pat Krenz, Mary Haas and all others who did so many kind loving things for him as his body began to fail him. He is survived by his sister Eleanor Beech of Sleepy Eye MN, his son Scott Steinke of WA, 3 grandchildren, Anthony Steinke of Watson MN, Matthew Steinke and Nathanael Steinke of Fall City, WA, a sister-in-law, Fidelis Steinke of Springfield, MN, and other relatives and friends. He was preceeded in death by his father Melvin Steinke, his mother Ida Krueger, wife Jane Pulkrabek, son Boyce Steinke, his brother Wilfred Steinke, and his brother-in-law Dick Beech.
