Melroy Penner

Melroy Penner, age 82, of Mountain Lake died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mt. Lake. Visitation is 4-7 PM Friday, August 24, 2012 at Sturm Funeral Home in Mt. Lake and resumes at church, one hour before the funeral. The funeral will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 25, 2012 at First Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake, Pastor Elaine Kauffman officiating. The interment will follow the funeral at Mountain Lake City Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to MCC (Mennonite Central Committee). Melroy Leo was born on December 19, 1929 to Peter Isaac and Anna (Teichroew) Penner in Midway Township (rural Mountain Lake). On May 16, 1948, Melroy was baptized into membership at First Mennonite Church in Mt. Lake. He attended rural school District 15 and graduated from Mountain Lake High School with the Class of 1948. In 1953 he served for a time in Wisconsin with the 1W Alternative Service. Much of Melroy's enjoyment in life was derived from the family farm where he lived his whole life. He loved tilling the land with his John Deere equipment. He loved raising, and even just watching, his Hereford beef cattle. He enjoyed nature and the out-of-doors. He enjoyed sports and frequently attended Laker/Wolverine sporting events. A great pleasure was going out to eat and visiting with his many friends at the Darfur Caf and "C-Store" (Cenex). Melroy Penner is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Esther Fast and Lila Ernest Neufeld, all of Mt. Lake, and eleven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, young sister, Verna Penner, brother sister-in-law, Alton Luella Penner, brother-in-law Peter A. Fast, and one niece.
