Marilyn Sperstad, daughter of Rodney Myrtle (Stokke) Nelson, was born on February 23, 1937 in St. James, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Marilyn grew up on a farm near Jeffers, MN and later near Godahl and attended country school and St. James High School. She married Orville Blekestad on January 17, 1954, they were later divorced. She married Donald Sperstad on November 19, 1960 in Sibley, Iowa, they made their home in Madelia with their children. Marilyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia. She enjoyed watching television, especially the MN Twins Baseball games, American Idol and the Bachelorette. She loved trying out new recipes and cooking for her family. Marilyn enjoyed listening to country music. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn will be remembered for her sense of humor, her smile and her unique and contagious laugh. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Bruce) Buckingham of rural Madelia, Susan Sperstad special friend Lorenzo Valladolid of LaSalle; sons, Rick (Barbara) Blekestad of Duluth, Mark Blekestad of Madelia, Timothy Sperstad of St. James; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Duncan of Citrus Heights, CA and brother, Douglas Nelson.
