Marian Fredin

Marian was born September 16, 1930 to William and Selma (Wallin) Anacker in Mountain Lake. She grew up in Darfur, where she attended elementary school at Independent School District 40. She graduated from Comfrey High School in 1948. Marian and James "Jim" Fredin were married on October 20, 1949 in Darfur. James and Marian raised their three sons-Brian, Todd, and Tracy-- on their farm south of Comfrey, where they resided until they moved to Brickstone Manor in Comfrey in 2007. They were residents at St. John's since February, 2010. Marian lived a busy life, raising three boys, supporting and assisting James in the non-stop activity of the farm, and cooking and baking up a storm. She found time to enjoy music, wildlife, antiques, sewing, and playing cards. In later years, James and Marian grew a large vegetable and flower garden and they sold produce and flowers at area farmer's markets. Marian worked outside the home as a cook at the Comfrey Hospital, an organist at the Comfrey United Church of Christ and Faith Lutheran Church, and, as a guide at the Jeffers Petroglyphs, where she greatly enjoyed her co-workers and visitors. Piano lessons for many area children were a team effort as James chatted with the mothers at the kitchen table while Marian was at the piano in the living room. Marian was an active member of many groups at Faith Lutheran Church (now New Hope Lutheran). Marian will be remembered for her gracious hospitality, teaching and mentoring, and boundless energy until illness took hold. She has been a great wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and a friend to people of all ages. She will be greatly missed. Marian was preceded in death by James in 2010 and by infant grandsons David and Matthew Fredin. Marian's survivors include her children, Brian and Laurie Fredin of Mt. Lake, Todd and Nancy Fredin of Arden, North Carolina, and Tracy Fredin and Debra Petersen of Minneapolis. Grandchildren and great-grand children are Mark, Jenny, Emily, Ellie, and Thomas Fredin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Paul, Christen, Katen, William and Luke Fredin of Hampton, Virginia; Jeff Fredin, Comfrey; Michael Fredin, State College, PA, and Lesley Fredin, Washington, D.C.; and, Taylor and Camille Fredin of Minneapolis. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law are Norm and Joyce Fredin of Albert Lea, Marian Fredin of Mt. Lake, and Wendell and Martha Fredin of Comfrey. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, and other family members, including her special Wallin-Post cousins.
