Lucille Sandbo

December 4, 1910 — March 23, 2008

Lucille 'Ole' Augusta Sandbo was born December 4, 1910, in Charlestown Township, Redwood County, the daughter of Carl and Theresa (Ork) Ohlemann. She graduated from Sanborn High School and then attended nurses training at Union Hospital in New Ulm and Ramsey County Hospital in St. Paul. Ole returned to work in New Ulm before moving to Springfield to care for her grandfather. She was united in marriage to Edward Bittler on April 16, 1936. Edward died in July of 1938. Ole was then married to Helmer 'Sandy' Sandbo on June 14, 1941. Ole worked at the Springfield Hospital and then St. John Lutheran Home before going to work at the Comfrey Hospital until retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mary Martha Circle, WELCA, and was an honorary member of Circa Studi. Ole was also a member of the Springfield Golf Club, card club, bowling league, Springfield Hospital Auxiliary and St. John Lutheran Home Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, golfing, fishing, quilting, playing cards and bowling. Ole also enjoyed gardening and was known for her horseradish. Lucille 'Ole' Sandbo died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Home at the age of 97 years. She is survived by daughter- Carla and husband Bill Hakes of Aitkin; grandsons- Scott and wife Sue Bittler and their children Nicholas and Nicole of Medford, OR, and Kerry and wife Virginia Bittler of Happy Valley, OR; granddaughter- Stefanie Weltsch of Blaine, MN; sister- Ruth Kaseforth of Springfield; special friend- Steve Eichberger of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands- Edward in 1938 and Helmer 'Sandy' in 1964; son- Edward Bittler; son-in-law- Mike Weltsch; sisters- Florence Anderson, Ada Batzlaff, Anna King, and Martha Fonken; and brothers- Martin, Harold, Edward, and Otto Ohlemann.
