Lorraine Hammerschmidt

Lorraine Minnie Hammerschmidt was born December 3, 1926 in Wabasso, MN to Emil and Anna (Kruse) Geske. She graduated from Wabasso High School in 1946 then attended Bemidji State University for 2 years. Lorraine taught at several area country schools while furthering her education with classes at Mankato State University where she eventually attained a B.S. Degree in Education. She taught in Wabasso for 2 years and then in Lamberton for 27 years. She was united in marriage to Melvin Hammerschmidt on June 13, 1954 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso. Lorraine was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton where she taught Sunday School, served on the Parish Education Committee, and was chairwoman of a circle. She was also a member of Card Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a charter member of the TOPS organization in Lamberton. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, bowling, quilting, reading, and taking walks. She is survived by sons- Randy and Ricky of Lamberton, Rod (Gina) of Springfield, and Reed (Kristel) of Prior Lake; 6 grandchildren; and brother Bill (Audrey) Geske of Wabasso. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin in 2013; granddaughter Catherine in infancy; sisters- Delores Lemke, Mary Ann Trebesch, and Edna Tyler; and brothers- Gilbert, Marvin, Lorance, Linus, and Louis Geske.
