Loretta Ryan

Loretta Catherine Ryan was born January 17, 1916, in Ivanhoe, MN the daughter of John and Nellie (Lorden) Ruff. She graduated from Franklin High School and attended Normal School in Redwood Falls for 2 years. Loretta taught in rural schools for 11 years before her marriage to Ernest Ryan on June 28, 1943. The couple farmed in North Star Township for many years. Loretta began teaching at St. Raphael's Catholic School in 1963, taught for 20 years and moved to Springfield in 1991. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, CCW, and Lady Foresters. Loretta was also a member of several bridge clubs and the North Star Community Club. She enjoyed playing cards, and especially enjoyed her family and her Irish heritage. She is survived by son John and wife Pat Ryan of Springfield; daughters- Mary and husband Lee Watson of Keokuk, IA, Margaret Ryan of St. Paul, and Kay and husband Randy Halter of Springfield; son-in-law Smokey Amsden of Minnetonka; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister Agnes Jean Kickul of Mankato. She was preceded in death by husband Ernest in 1974; daughter Patti Amsden in 1997; sisters- Eileen Anderson and Mary Pyfferoen; and brother Jack Ruff.
