Lloyd Emil Weckwerth

Lloyd Emil Weckwerth was born January 22, 1929, in Stately Township, Brown County, MN to Emil and Edna (Schleusner) Weckwerth. He served with the U.S. Army from December 3, 1952 to November 10, 1954 where he earned the National Defense Service Medal. Lloyd was united in marriage to Mildred Sandmeyer on May 6, 1955, at First Lutheran Church in St. James. The couple lived in rural Springfield where Lloyd drove a scraper and was a member of the Operating Engineers 49'ers Highway Heavy Union. He also worked at Redwood Nursery in Redwood Falls. Lloyd enjoyed vegetable gardening, planting and trimming trees, reading, hunting, and trapping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Lloyd Weckwerth died Monday, January 18, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 86 years. He is survived by wife Mildred of Springfield; children- Doreen Weckwerth of St. James, Robert and wife Stephanie Weckwerth of Farmington, and Debra and husband Ross McDermott of Crystal; grandchildren- Kayla McDermott, and Preston, Colton, Keaton, and Allison Weckwerth; sisters- Lorraine Polzin of New Ulm, Lorna Weedman of New Ulm, and Judy Kelley of Minneapolis; brother Arnie Weckwerth of New Ulm; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Edna Weckwerth; brothers-in-law- Orville Polzin and Lowell Weedman; sister-in-law Ardell Weckwerth; and nephews- Lynn Polzin and Kevin Weedman.
