Linus Haala

There will be a Parish prayer service at 7pm Friday at the funeral home. Linus Haala, age 95, of Sleepy Eye, MN passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Countryside Retirement Community in Sleepy Eye, MN. He was born November 13, 1913 to Martin and Katherine (Helget) Haala. Linus married Luella Krzmarzick on May 12, 1943. They had 4 sons and 3 daughters. Linus was a lifetime member of the Japanese Martyrs Church in Leavenworth. He was a Mass server and a member of the Holy Family Society for 65 years. He was the oldest living member of the parish. Linus was born on the farm in Leavenworth Township settled by his parents in 1884. He attended country school in Mulligan Township and received his religious education at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs. Linus took over the family farm and worked there his entire life--even helping with the spring planting this year. He had a strong faith, was an avid reader, loved fixing things and enjoyed going to tractor pulls. He enjoyed visiting with his family whom he loved so much and with friends both young and old. He had a warm smile and a great sense of humor. He will be missed by so many who love him. Linus is survived by sons, Tom (Nancy) Haala of New Ulm, David (Nancy) Haala of Sleepy Eye, Marty (Yvonne) Haala on the family farm, Kevin (Sandy) Haala of Sleepy Eye, and daughters, Jeanne (Dale) Lund of Dassel and Karen (Joe) Braulick of Sleepy Eye, 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, brother, Jerry (Emral) Haala of Gibbon and brothers-in-law Norbert (Alice) Krzmarzick and Bernard Krzmarzick all of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella, daughter, Mary in 1968, sisters, Lonia and Cleopha and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
