Leota Mae Brudelie

Leota Mae (Smith) Brudelie born August 12, 1923 in Fieldon Township to Frank and Macy (Pond) Smith, died on February 19, 2020. She attended country school District 41 and graduated from Madelia High School in 1941. After graduation she worked at various businesses in St. James, MN. She was united in marriage to Alvin Brudelie on September 20, 1947 in St. James and blessed with five sons. Alvin and Leota lived and farmed near Lewisville from 1948 to 1983. Leota enjoyed playing in the Lewisville Kitchen Band and was a past president of the Watonwan Home Council and the Lewisville American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary for over 57 years, a member of the Madelia Hospital Auxiliary, the St. James VFW Auxiliary, and a life member of the Madelia VFW Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Madelia Senior Citizens and Senior Federation of Mankato, served as an elder at the Presbyterian Church of Madelia of which she was a member for over 75 years, and was an active member in the women's groups at church. In June after Alvin died (September 1988), Leota moved to Madelia and then to Amberfield Place. She was most recently a resident of Living Meadows at Luther, Madelia. Leota is survived by son, Alan (Diane) of Lewisville, their children, Ryan (Julie) and Aaron (Molly); son Richard of Madelia, his daughter LeAnn (Dustin) Szczech; sons, Norman of Lewisville, Paul (Debra) of Pemberton and their children Wendolyn (Tony) Ring and Michael (Amber); step-daughter-in-law Nancy Brudelie of Orefield Pennsylvania and her children Jana (Jerry) Brown and Jay (Ann) Brudelie; 15 great-grandchildren, Colby, Carter Brudelie, Carson, Dylan Ring, Sydney, Peyton and Aubrey Brudelie, Makenna, Malakai, Aayla, Amaya Brudelie, Lydia, Ellie, Grady Szczech, and Jared Brown; brother, Wayne (Elaine) Smith of Lewisville, sister-in-law, Violet Brudelie of Fairfax, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin; son Donald; stepson Dennis Brudelie; sisters, Ruby Randall, Elta Erickson; brother Arden Smith, Brothers-in-law Kermit Randall, Donald Erickson, Carlton Brudelie; sisters-in-law Evie Walrath, Delores "Sistie" Smith and Dorothy Wischmann. Memorials are preferred to the Madelia Community Hospital Foundation. Visitation 1 9:00 am - 10:00 am Monday, February 24, 2020 First Presbyterian Church-Madelia 114 E.
