Leonard Tietz

February 5, 1933 — March 25, 2017

Leonard Gordon Tietz was born on February 5, 1933 in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County, the son of Theodore and Lucy (Bierman) Tietz. He served in the military during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He married Leona Carlson on April 25, 1962 at Faith Lutheran Church in Comfrey. He worked at Ochs Brick and Tile in Springfield, where they lived. Leonard began a career in plumbing, working first for local plumbers, becoming a Journeyman Plumber. He began farming, relocating to rural Walnut Grove, in 1978. He left farming in 1992 and moved to Windom where he and Leona lived for 20 years. He moved to Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan in 2012 where he lived until his death. Leonard was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Morgan and the Springfield American Legion. He took great pride in keeping his farm neat and tidy. He enjoyed remodeling his home and was a fantastic handyman. He could fix almost anything….usually improving the design in the process! He enjoyed swimming with his family, driving his golf cart, attending sporting events and his dog, buddy. He will be missed by many. He is survived by children Richard (Dawn) of Morgan, MN and their children - Megan (Nate) Zabel, Lucas (Kassi), Amber, Becca, and Kegan; Jan (Dan) Fennern of Cannon Falls, MN and their children - Brittany (Jake) Filkins and Colin (Alexa); Julie Nelson of Superior, IA and her children - Kristina (fianc Jeremy), Kayla, Elijah, Jessica, Katelyn, and William; Jeanie (Steve) Rasche of Heron Lake, MN and their children - Alexa (Anthony) Johnson, Michaela (Mike) Walz, Madison, Jacob Lundgren, Claire and Emma; 4 great grandchildren - Violet, Jacob, Maverik, and Raelyn; sisters - Delores (Bill) Zimmer of Echo, MN, Mildred (Donald) of Walnut Grove, MN, and a brother - Arnold (Marilyn) of Kasson, MN. The family would like to thank the many, many people who have loved, supported, and cared for Leonard over the years.
