Leo Ludewig

Leo was born May 29, 1931, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Vitalis and Emma (Treml) Ludewig. He attended school in Mulligan Township. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Ulm, Germany, for 18 months. He married Bernice Hillesheim on Nov. 16, 1954, at St. Mary''s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He was employed by the Sleepy Eye Farmers Elevator for several years and then began farming with his father in Mulligan Township. Leo was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, the Holy Family Society , and served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Leo enjoyed playing cards in Essig, bowling, farming and the farm life and watching Twins games. Leo was especially fond of spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Bernice of Comfrey; children, Joanne (Mark) Miller of Sleepy Eye, Kenneth (June) Ludewig of Sleepy Eye, Randy (Cathy) Ludewig of Sleepy Eye, Janine (Scott) Agre of Gaylord, and Lisa (Dave) Hertling of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Jill Kidrowski, Benjamin Miller, Jared Miller, Stephanie Ludewig, Elizabeth Ludewig, Joseph Ludewig, Matthew Ludewig, David Ludewig, Kate Ludewig, Ryan Tauer, Joey Tauer, Tyler Agre, Danielle Frauendienst, Nicole Evers and Natalie Hertling; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Betty (Duane) Doran of Everly, Iowa, Donald (Kathy) Ludewig of Sleepy Eye, Linda (Lester) Braulick of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Donna Ludewig of Bluffton, S.C.; Bernette (Clifford) Schumacher of Sleepy Eye; Donna Hillesheim and Alice Hillesheim both of New Ulm and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by, his parents; a brother, Robert; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter Hillesheim, Roman Hillesheim, Albert Hillesheim, Lenus Hillesheim, Leslie Hillesheim, Lawrence Hillesheim, Veronica Groebner and Loretta Roiger.
