Lena Ewert

June 14, 1923 — February 14, 2013

Lena was born to David H. and Agatha (Baerg) Ewert on June 14, 1923 in Mountain Lake. She received her elementary education in District 16C school and completed her high school requirements while attending Tabor Academy in Hillsboro, KS. She studied at Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, graduating in 1947. Lena worked with MCC as an RN at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Anthony, Newfoundland, from 1961-63. This included a few months as supervisor of the Tuberculosis Clinic with the International Sir Wilgred Grenfell Association. When she returned home, she worked in the Mt. Lake Hospital, then the clinic and eventually ended her nursing career in the late 1980s as a hospital nurse. Upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ, Lena was baptized on August 22, 1937 by her uncle, the Rev. A. J. Wiebe. She was an active member of the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church in Delft, MN until it closed in 2005. She then transferred her membership to the Mt. Lake Community Bible Church. Lena loved gardening and being outdoors. Her creative floral arrangements, made with flowers from her garden, graced many tables. Her gift of precise quilting resulted in treasured gifts to loved ones and active bidders at MCC sales. Lena Ewert is survived by sister, Anna Ewert, rural Bingham Lake, brothers: Abe (Delora) Ewert, Isanti, MN, and Adam (Alice) Ewert, Friendswood, TX, sister-in-law, Alma Ewert, OR, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
