Lawrence Bruce Middleton was born November 7, 1915 near Golden Gate (Frog Hollow), north of Sleepy Eye in Home Township, the son of Bruce and Martha (Essig) Middleton. At the age of 5, he moved with his family to a farm south of Sanborn. He was confirmed in the Methodist Church in that area. Lawrence attended Cottonwood County School District 53 through the 7th grade. He worked for area farmers until he could purchase his present farm in 1942. Lawrence married Renata Mabel Hauth on February 9, 1945. They were married 64 years and farmed the land and milked cows until 1994. Then they rented out the land and Lawrence continued in the recycling business which he had started in the 60's. He enjoyed fishing, deer-hunting, his wonderful companion dog Snow, and recycling. Lawrence suffered a stroke on November 8, 2012 and entered St. John Lutheran Home where he resided until his death. He is survived by son Allen (Sandy) Middleton of Springfield; daughter Vivian (Reynold) Dittbenner of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren- Mike (Jen) Middleton, LuAnn (Linus) Kruse, Joleen (Doc) Theisen, Diedrich (Nina) Middleton, Darial (Jay) Klabunde, Craig (Joleen) Dittbenner, and Kerry (Shannon) Dittbenner; 17 great grandchildren; brother Dwayne Middleton; sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Renata; brothers- Alvin (Valeria), Andrew, and Darvy "Smiley"; and 1 great-grandchild.
