LaVarre Hollingsworth was born in Minneapolis on November 29, 1917 to Roy and Ida (Moeschler) Norris. She married Donald S. Hollingsworth on May 27, 1938 in South Minneapolis. She worked most of her life for Gustafson Plumbing as an Office Manager. It was in her mid-forties that she was given the opportunity to do what she was passionate about - Horses. Through contacts at her job she was able to start her daughters into horse riding and showing. For many years she and her family were involved in raising and showing both Arabian and Saddlebred horses. LaVarre spent over 40 years as a member and secretary of Tanbark riding club and a member of the Tri-State Horseman's Association. She also worked for the Minnesota State Fair Horse Show for over 30 years before retiring in 1999. She was known in the horse world for her ready smile in the Show office. She was Horsewoman of the Year by the Minnesota Horse Council in 1980. Also she received an award in 1994 for many years of service and dedication as editor of the Tri-State Horseman's Association newsletter. In 2001 she received the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award for the Tri-State Horseman's Association. She moved to Springfield in 1985, and spent the latter part of her life with her husband, children, grandchildren, volunteer driving for Brown County, and playing cards with her friends. She is survived by her children, Stephen (Karen) Hollingsworth of Richfield, MN, Susan (Ken) Olesen of Apple Valley, MN, Marsha Baer of Glendale, AZ, Lisa (John) Reiner of Springfield, MN, Laurie (Jeff) Hall of Comfrey, MN; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Jeannine Opsal of Palisade, CO and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Donald on December 13, 1990; brothers - Everal and Manley; sister, Dorothy; granddaughter, Heather Hollingsworth-Solberg; and son-in-law, Tim Baer.
