Larry David Benzel

Larry David Benzel was born to Laurence and Ruth Benzel on September 10, 1946. Larry grew up in Madelia and was a graduate from Madelia High School. He was united in marriage to Jeanne Hemerick on February 12, 1966 at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia. Larry farmed in Madelia for 35 years. He also worked at Continental Can, Luther Memorial Home, St. Paul's Lutheran School and Martin Luther College. Larry served in the National Guard for six and a half years. He was actively involved in his church, as well as local and state snowmobile clubs. In his free time, he enjoyed camping and snowmobiling, but his grandchildren were his number one priority. Larry fought a courageous war against cancer for 12 years, but lost the final battle on February 17, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James, MN. His loved ones rejoice that he is no longer suffering and that he is now at home with his Savior. Larry is survived by his wife, Jeanne Benzel; children, Marc Benzel of Madelia, Lisa (Jason) Holmgren of Hammond, WI; daughter-in-law, Shannon (Brett) Ledin of Madelia; siblings, Donald (Sharron) Benzel of St. James, JoAnne (Milo) Cochran of Kasota, MN, Kenneth (Judy) Benzel of Oak Hill, OH; grandchildren, Riley Benzel, Josh Benzel, Kadin Benzel, Kaitlyn Holmgren, AJ Holmgren; many nieces and nephews; friends, and special 4 legged friends, Reese and Winnie.
