Joseph Eugene Stern was born August 18, 1956, in Starbuck, MN, the son of Wilbert and Doris (Schnobrich) Stern. He attended country school in Hanska, elementary school in Comfrey, and Springfield High School. Joe worked at Och's Brick Yard following school and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Och's Brick Yard before going to work at Sanborn Manufacturing Company where he worked for 18 years. Joe was united in marriage to Rae Jean Sellner on September 20, 1980, in New Ulm. In June of 2000, Joe purchased the Saddle Bar in Cobden and later re-named it the Iron Horse Saloon. He was a member of the Minnesota Drifters, the Patriot Guard, and John Watson American Legion Post #257. Joe enjoyed motorcycles, trips to Sturgis, playing cards, traveling, and visiting with his many friends and customers. Joseph Eugene Stern died Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Springfield Medical Center-Hospital at the age of 51 years. Survivors include daughter- Katelynn Stern of Mountain Lake; step-daughter- Angie and husband Tom Tomlinson of Pardeeville, WI; special friend- Christine Methner of So. St. Paul; sister- Jackie and husband Terry Menter of Springfield; grandchildren- Lydia and Carly Tomlinson of Pardeeville, WI; 2 nephews; and 5 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife- Rae Jean in 1997.
