Joseph Dietl age 83, of New Ulm, MN and formerly of Lamberton died on April 10, 2020, at Woodstone Assisted Living Center in New Ulm, MN Due to the current COVID-19 related health concerns, there will be a private family service for Joe Dietl on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. If you would like to show your support for the family you are invited to observe the procession as we drive through down town Lamberton on our way to a private graveside service. We plan for an approximate procession between 11:00 and 11:15. The clergy will be Father Phil Schotzko. Interment will be at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Lamberton, MN Joseph George Dietl was born on May 30, 1936, the son of Andrew and Agnes (Schiefert) Dietl, in Linden Township, south of Searles, MN. While attending high school in Gibbon, MN he worked as a printers devil with the Gibbon Gazette. After his graduation in 1954, Joe continued working with the Gibbon Gazette and also spent six years with the Army Reserves. Joe was united in marriage on September 14, 1963 to Dorothy Westermayer in Mankato, MN. The couple resided in Gibbon until they moved to Lamberton and purchased the Lamberton News in May of 1969. Joe continued as the Publisher and Editor of the Lamberton News for the next 50 plus years. He was a prominent figure in Lamberton serving on many boards including Valley View Manor and the Douglas Apartments, was a member of the Lamberton Commercial Club, the Lions Club and the Lamberton American Legion for 48 years. He was also an active member of his church, St. Joseph's Catholic. He was proud of the City of Lamberton and always had the towns best interest in mind with everything he did. He enjoyed gardening with particular attention to his roses, fishing, spending time with his family and fresh sweet corn and sauerkraut. After 48 years in Lamberton, Joe and Dorothy moved to New Ulm in December 2017. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy of New Ulm, his children Jill (Mark) Minet of Holland, MN, Paul of Bloomington, MN, and Greg of New York, NY; sister Rita Tacheny of Owatonna, MN; and 2 grandchildren Rachel and Corinn. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Agnes in 1936 shortly after his birth and Andrew in 1982; and brother Jerome in 2019.
