John Hovden

September 19, 1936 — June 15, 2015

John Hovden, age 78 of St. James, died June 15, 2015 on his family farm where he lived his entire life. John was born September 19, 1936 to George and Loretta (Zender) Hovden in St. James, Minnesota. He graduated from St. James High School in 1954 and began farming with his father. In 1958, John joined the National Guard where he served for 6 years. He began working for S-T Industries in 1958 where he was a welder for 43 years. Forever known as a hard worker, he farmed his entire life. John married Beverly Erickson on July 21, 1961 at the St. James Catholic Church. He was an avid reader, enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling, guns, hunting and working in his shop. Those who knew him know he was never short of an opinion and always had a story to share. His favorite food was ice cream and John Deere green was the only approved color on the farm. John is survived by his special friend, Lois (Duncanson) Christenson ; his children Darci Slocum (Bob) of Flower Mound, TX; Darrin Hovden and fianc Natosha Sizer of Madelia; Darla Hovden (Ryan Paulson) of Philadelphia, PA, nephews Dan Hudson of Little Falls, MN, Steve Hudson of St. James and Curt Hudson of St. James; grandchildren Christofer Slocum, Kari Slocum and Ryder Paulson. He was preceded in his death by wife Beverly, infant son Kevin, parents, George and Loretta Hovden, and his sister Joan Hudson.
