John F Awiszus, 93, passed away November 24, 2010 at Bethany St. Joseph Home in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born August 3, 1917 to Henry and Cecilia Awiszus in Iroquois, S.D. He married Frieda Field, October 7, 1940 at the Redeemer Lutheran Parsonage in Wayne, NE. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Wisner and Norfolk, NE until moving to St. James in 1957. John owned and operated John's Garage in St. James until 2004 upon his retirement His occupation was his passion. He liked a challenge as a mechanic, he built stock and demolition cars . He repaired anything with an engine...mowers, tractors, trucks and cars and was willing to share his wealth of mechanical knowledge with others. He loved his occupation and valued his loyal customers. He and Frieda met at a dance...and they continued their dance through life.. John and Frieda's love for one another taught their children and grandchildren the value of love, respect, family and friends They lived a modest life that was rich with laughter and an appreciation for the basics life had to offer. John is survived by four children, Terry (Marie) Awiszus of Sauk Rapids, MN Nancy (Richard) Geiger of Onalaska, WI, Cathy (Darwin) McNeal of Lochbuie, CO and Sandra (Alan) Jackson of Georgetown, TX. He is survived by 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.; sister, Elsie Volbrecht of Norfolk, NE, sister-in-law, Merline Awiszus, of South Sioux City NE, and special friend Leona Schmidtz of Fairfax, MN. John was preceded in death by his wife, his parents;, grandson Matthew McNeal; brothers, Henry and Alfred, Sisters, Minnie Miller, Dorothy Horstman, Margaret Lehman and Shirley Embro.
