James Bernard Sawatzky

October 8, 1934 — July 26, 2022

James "Jim" Sawatzky was born on October 8, 1934 in Butterfield, Minnesota to Herbert and Katherina (Worms) Sawatzky. He was baptized by Pastor Frank Wiens at Evangelical Mennonite Bretheren Church. James attended country school through the 8th grade. After his education, James delivered milk, but found his passion in life through mechanics. He truly loved to fix anything that was broken. James met the love of his life, Rosalie Dick, and the two were married on May 17, 1957 in Mountain Lake, MN. This union blessed them with three children, Jane, Randy, and Dean. James would help anyone in a moment's notice. During snow storms, he helped those stranded and after, he would plow driveways open. In the summer he would be found tilling gardens and fixing the garden machines or tractors. He was a man of few words, but when he did speak, it displayed his depth of knowledge in his areas of expertise. He served the community of Mountain Lake most of his life by starting Jim's Repair Shop in the late 1950's. He continued to work well into his later years. This business continues to serve the community today. Jim's other passions included, hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycling, traveling ( frequently trips were planned in the spur of the moment) and just enjoying time with family and friends. Jim enjoyed racing snowmobiles. He had a need for speed, and testing how fast anything with a motor would go ; which the family still calls "The Sawatzky Test". James is survived by his children, Jane (Kevin) Paulsen of Windom; Randy (Ronda) Sawatzky of Mountain Lake; Dean Sawatzky of Mountain Lake; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronnie (Rita) Sawatzky of Madison, WI. Donnie (Kathy) Sawatzky of Windom, and many other cousins , nieces, nephews and friends. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Rosalie; parents Herbert and Katherina; infant grandson, Adam Sawatzky; sister, Adaline Penner, and brother, Louie Sawatzky.
