Ivona Windschitl

lvona Laura Honey Windschitl, 82, Comfrey died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center. lvona was born July 18, 1932, in Leavenworth Township the daughter of Michael and Rose (Haala) Helget. She attended Quail Trap School and graduated from St Mary's High School. In 1951, she married Edwin F. Windschitl, in Sleepy Eye. The couple farmed in Mulligan Township until they retired and moved to Comfrey. She served as postmaster at the post office in LaSalle. In addition, she sold World Book Encyclopedias and Christmas around the World where her skilled salesmanship earned many awards. Following her retirement, she cleaned St Paul's Church and volunteered her time as a teacher's aide at Comfrey Schools. She loved children and was an influential mentor to many over the years. She was a lifelong learner and a great supporter of the educational goals of others. She enjoyed gardening, embroidering, crocheting, quilting, reading a good mystery novel and especially spending time with her family. One of her greatest prides was keeping her yard and home neat and orderly at all times. lvona was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and choir and the Comfrey Garden Club. lvona is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Mary); David (Diane) Jeffry (Julie), Daniel (Tammy), grandchildren; Erik, Justin (Rebekah) Angie (Christian), Andrew (Amber), John, Lauren (William), Rachel (Brent), Carly (Todd) and Adam. Great Grandchildren, Morgan, Riley, Devin and William. Sister, Marion and husband Val Rathman of Comfrey, brother, LaMonte and wife Elaine Helget of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters, Lorraine Haecherl and Verena Dot Krebs.
