Irene Loewen, age 97, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society The Village in Mountain Lake, MN. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 1:30pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake with Rev. Rick Bremseth officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Lake City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services. Irene Florence Loewen was born January 3,1924, in Mt. Lake, MN, to Otto and Jennie (Loof) Johnson. Irene was raised in the Mt. Lake area, and she attended District #67 and Mt. Lake Public schools. Irene was baptized and made Confession of Faith on June 18, 1950, at the Christian Reform Church north of Mt. Lake. On September 1,1950, she married Nick N. Loewen, and they made their home in Mt. Lake. In 1980, she and Nick transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Mt. Lake. Nick passed away March 5, 1982. Prior to marriage, Irene worked at Butterfield Produce. Irene worked for Toro in Windom for three years. She also worked as a grocery store clerk for 24 years at Rich's Fairway and Maynard's. Irene greatly enjoyed spending time with her numerous nieces and nephews. She frequently baby-sat and played games and sports with them. Irene enjoyed crocheting and embroidering, and she created many dresses for family members. While a member at Christian Reform Church, Irene taught Bible school and was active in the young people's group. For 30 years, she participated in her church's Ladies Aid group. Later, Irene belonged to the Trinity Lutheran Women's Missionary League and kept busy quilting with that group. She also found time to help with crafts at the Good Samaritan Village. Irene spent her entire life in the Mt Lake area, moving to Parkwood Apartments and then the Good Samaritan Village in her later years. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Nick, siblings and their spouses; Gertrude (Samuel) Harder, John (Gustie) Johnson, Ella (Otto) Olson, Harm (Mary) Johnson, Grace (John) Peters, Elmer Johnson, Lawrence (Caroline) Johnson, Verna (Raymond) Oeltjenbruns, Leland (Verna) Johnson, Harry and Mable in infancy and nieces and nephews. She was the last of her siblings and their spouses to pass away.
