Herman Albert Henry Rinne

Herman Rinne, age 99, of St. James died peacefully at his sister-in-laws home on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Martin Lopahs officiating. Special music will be provided by Klarice Rinne, Elle Ribbe and Herman's nieces, great-nieces and great-great-nieces. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James with military honors provided by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Monday. Herman Albert Henry Rinne was born September 18, 1917 in St. James, the son of William C. and Emma (Graminske) Rinne. He was baptized October 7, 1917 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James by Rev. Pankow. He was confirmed April 13, 1930, by Rev. Ernst Birkholz. He attended District 63 Country School for 4 years and after that, St. Paul's Lutheran School. Herman was drafted into the Army on March 7, 1942. He served our Country at the height of WWII in North Africa and on the front lines in Italy under General George Patton. He was discharged on November 7, 1945 at Camp McCoy in Wisc. Herman played the tenor banjo and coronet in the Minnesota Valley Orchestra in Mankato. He was raised on the family farm and was a farmer all of his life. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to old time polka music, having coffee with his friends, and collecting antique machinery. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James. Surviving Herman are his sister-in-law Minnie Rinne of St. James, special nephew Klarice Rinne of St. James, cousins, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; William, Jr., Elmer, sisters; Lillian, Emma, Marie and Elsie. Visitation 1 9:30 am - 10:30 am Monday, March 20, 2017 St. Paul's Ev.
