Memorial services for Helen Stradtman will be 1:30pm Sunday, August 22, 2021, at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch with Rev. Matthew Rusert officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the church fellowship hall. Helen passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at her home in St. James. Due to Covid a private family graveside service was held. Helen Rose Darmer was born to Fred and Emma (Virgens) Darmer on February 16,1924, in Fraser township, Martin County. She attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran School. Helen was united in marriage to Vernon Stradtman on February 20,1944, at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser. The couple made their home and farmed in South Branch Township all of their married lives. They enjoyed traveling to Arizona and Texas in the winters. Helen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch and was active in the Ladies Aid where she held several offices. She also served as a 4-H leader. She was known for her craft talents including sewing and hardanger. In 2006 Helen moved to St. James where she enjoyed going on daily walks by the lake, having coffee with friends, eating out together, and playing cards. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her. Helen is survived by daughters Shirley (Dave) Hogan, Blaine MN and Bonnie (Mark) Brown, St. James. Granddaughters Amy (Jon) Schlegel and Lindsey Brown, great grandchildren Charlie and Alice Helen Schlegel, sisters-in-law Eileen Stradtman and Arlene Darmer. She was preceded in death by husband Vernon in 1996, grandson Jonathan Hogan, sister Regina Darmer, brothers Victor, Lloyd, and Alfred Darmer, sisters and brothers-in-law Lucille and Donald Bartlett, Lorraine and Bill Date, Kenneth Stradtman.
