Helen Marie Mather age 95, of Madelia, MN, died on February 6, 2021, at Madelia Community Hospital. A private graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Madelia. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. Helen Marie (Piepgras) Mather was born in Madelia, MN to David F. and Elizabeth J. (Fisher) Piepgras on August 20, 1925. She was a graduate from Lake Crystal High School in 1944. On October 7, 1944, she married Lowell Clinton Mather and the couple had two daughters. She and Lowell lived on the family farm where they raised purebred Hampshire Hogs. Helen loved to sew, paint ceramics and pictures, as well as gardening flowers. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Madelia, teaching Sunday School for 23 years and president of the Women's Society for 14 years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, belonged to Tuesday club, Birthday Club and loved doing fund-raisers for the hospital. She and Lowell enjoyed traveling together to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and Alaska. Most of all, Helen loved spending time with her family and supporting her grandchildren in all their games and activities. Helen is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Lynn) Knutson of Kasson, MN; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Lowell; daughter, Karen Palmer; sisters Lucille, Irene, Viola, Ruth, Vivian, Frances and brother, John Piepgras.
