Harry was born on December 24, 1928, in Bingham Lake, MN. He was the first child of Claus and Anna Wiens and grew up on their family farm near Bingham Lake. Harry was baptized on confession of his faith at age 12 by the Carson Mennonite Brethren Church. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1947. After high school, he did alternative service in Lincoln, Nebraska for 2 years and attended Tabor College for one semester. He then returned to the family farm, helping his father and eventually buying the farm and continuing the hard work of making a living off the land.
Harry saw huge changes over his many years of living on the farm, from horses to tractors to large combines, and continued to prioritize safety and hard work. Eventually, the farm became a crop farm only, without animals, and Harry was able to travel in the winters. He spent time in volunteer work with Christian missionaries in Mali, Africa and in Central America. He also volunteered locally with The Gideons International, donating and distributing Bibles. Harry always enjoyed singing, and in his earlier years he sang in the Carson Men’s Chorus at his church; they were well known in the area also through radio broadcasts and recordings. Another hobby was going fishing with his brothers. Harry was generous in many ways and several times he gifted his nieces, nephews and other relatives with a family reunion vacation.
Harry is survived by brother, Donald and sister-in-law, Dorothy Wiens of Denver, CO; sister, Luella and brother-in-law, Peter Enns of Vancouver, BC, Canada; sister-in-law, Angela Wiens of Rochester, MN; nephews, Douglas (Debbie), Roger (Gwen), Duane (Patti), and Kyle (Stacy); nieces, Donna Wiens, Lisa (Jeff) Weiberg, Cheryl Enns, Sandra Enns, Kayla (Mark) Carter, Karmen (Lyndon) Clark; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
Harry was preceded in death by parents, Claus and Anna Wiens; brothers, Alvin and Ray; and sister-in-law, Rose.
