Hannah Rose (Nessen) Nerem was born October 29, 1915 at her parents' home in rural Highwater Township, Cottonwood County, Lamberton, MN, to the late Hans A. and Amalia (Peterson) Nessen, the youngest of four daughters. She was baptized and confirmed at the Highwater Lutheran Church where she remained a lifelong member. She attended country school District 38 in rural Lamberton, graduated from Lamberton High School in 1934 and from the Lamberton Teachers Training Department in 1935, after which she taught in country school for two years. On June 15, 1937, Hannah was united in marriage to Kermit Nerem at Revere, MN. Kermit and Hannah farmed in Ann, Storden, and Highwater Townships where they raised their family of two daughters. Following the death of her husband in August of 1991, Hannah continued to live on their farm in Highwater Township where she remained until her death. Hannah was a faithful member of Highwater Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was also involved in circle. She loved her family and all the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her flowers, sewing, quilting, crocheting, watching the Twins and in recent years, making photographs and e-mailing on her computer. On June 30, 2009, Hannah was admitted to the Springfield Hospital and was transferred to Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato where she had surgery on July 2, 2009. Following surgery her health declined and she passed away there on Sunday morning, July 11, 2009 with her family at her bedside, at the wonderful age of 93 years, 8 months, and 13 days. Her devoted family includes her two daughters Margie (Dennis) Mattison of Lamberton, MN, Kathy Bergman and partner Lee Mitchell of Blain, MN; four grandchildren, Denise (Al) Clarke, Michael (Donna) Mattison, Charleen (Dan) Huynh, and Amber Galer; four great grandchildren, Jenny (Alex) Pankonin, Chelsea Popp, Bryn Huynh, Hayden Huynh; and her first great great grandchild expected November 2009; five step grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Kermit, and three sisters, Mary Witt, Lawrena Iverson, and Violet Witt. Blessed by her memory of Hannah Rose Nerem.
