Gloria Ann Granheim

Gloria Ann Granheim, age 92, of St. James passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Gloria was born on January 24, 1926, in Long Grove, Iowa to Julian and Sarah Stevens. When she was six years old she was adopted by Fred and Rena Durow of Monticello, IA. They also adopted a younger girl, Evelyn. The family moved to Minnesota where she had a happy childhood despite growing up during the great depression. Gloria met Art Granheim at Drekes Photo Shop where he was employed after he returned home from the Navy. Their marriage took place in the Norwegian Lutheran Church on September 29, 1951. They had two sons Bruce and David. In addition to being a homemaker, for a few years Gloria did daycare in their home and also worked at the St James Hospital Kitchen. She became highly involved in the Watonwan County Humane Society. She loved caring for the animals and sometimes even brought a few animals home! Gloria was a member of First Lutheran Church, volunteering in numerous groups over the years. She also volunteered with the St James Friends of the Library. There was nothing Gloria enjoyed more than curling up with a good book. Gloria had a lifelong passion for learning and loved to try new recipes, read a new book, and travel to new places. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She had even reconnected with some of her relatives in Iowa. Gloria is survived by her sons Bruce Granheim of Wichita, KS, David Granheim of Welcome, four grandchildren: Sara (Richard) Deering of Plymouth, Katy (Ross) Magnuson of Marshall, Jacob Granheim of New Brighton, Chelsea (Steve) Peyton of Wichita, KS, six great-grandchildren Levi, Blake and Audrey Magnuson of Marshall, Olivia, Anna and Emily Deering of Plymouth and former daughter-in-law Mary Granheim of Fairmont. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred & Rena Durow, husband Arthur and sister Evelyn.
