George Newman

November 7, 1929 — April 23, 2013

George Jr. was born on November 7, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska to George and Gretchen (Reimers) Newman, Sr. For many years he owned and operated a sanitation business. As a Jack-of-all-trades, George loved mechanics and serviced his fleet of trucks himself. After retiring from his business, he worked as a shuttle transporter from a hotel to the airport. He was also a night shift currier from Omaha to Kansas City for a medical lab. Seeing that Kansas City nightlife provided interesting tales for George to tell! Later, he moved to Carthage, Missouri where he worked as a Walmart greeter. He was employed there for eight years, until his health forced him to give it up in 2007. It was on June 17, 1986 when George married Shirley Buller in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Together they moved back to Shirley's home town of Mountain Lake in 2008. He enjoyed traveling when he could, driving and the CB radio. George Newman, Jr. is survived by his wife, Shirley Newman, Mt. Lake, sons: George (Sheryl) Newman, III, Joplin, MO, Gary (Judy) Newman, Albuquerque, NM, Glenn (Robin) Newman, Plattsmouth, NE, Gene (Patty) Newman, La Vista, NE, and Gerry (Lisa) Newman, Trenton, MO, 20 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by his former wife, Darlene Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Gerald, and grandson Joshua.
