Floyd Bowman

May 3, 1931 — September 18, 2019

Floyd Leroy Bowman was born on May 3, 1931 in Bashaw Township of Brown County to Elmer and Alma (Rapp) Bowman. The youngest of six children. He attended District #59 country school. Floyd served in the U.S Army from February 1952 to January 1954. Spending 18 months of his enlistment in Germany. He returned home and joined his oldest brother Elmo on the family farm, four miles north of Comfrey. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and spent many years trap shooting at the Sleepy Eye Sportsmens Club, and was a long standing member of the Darfur Sportsmens Club. Floyd was also a Corn Husking champion for his age class in 1996. Floyd and Elmo were dairy farmers (Holstein Cows), until their retirement from that part of farming in 1987. They continued crop farming and raising beef cattle, for a number of years afterwards. Floyd was the Funny Uncle, and not so serious. He liked to joke around. He liked his land, and what he did to help the wildlife. He was proud of the wildlife on his land. Floyd was a powerful influence on his nieces and nephews. A fine example of hard work, honesty and humility. He was a long time member of the Albin Johnson American Legion Post #244 of Comfrey and a lifetime member of New Hope Lutheran Church, formerly Faith Lutheran Church, in Comfrey. Floyd died on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 88. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Bowman, and many nieces and nephews and their families, along with his many friends in the surrounding Comfrey area. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Elmo of Comfrey, Fred of Darfur and Comfrey, and James of Brooklyn Center; two sisters, Amy Bowman of Mankato and Mae (Bowman) Schwab of Sleepy Eye; nieces Barbara (Schwab) Aikin, Mary Lou Schwab; and nephew Robert Schwab.
