Evelyn Schardt

June 18, 1980 — July 24, 2014

Evelyn (Evie) Louise Schardt was born on March 8th 1920 in Tracy, MN the daughter of Arthur and Tilda Kendall. Evelyn worked at the Enterprise in Madelia for 24 years and was currently involved in the leisure program attending half days. Evelyn was known to many as "grandma". As an adopted grandma, she had a lot of responsibilities. One of her favorite responsibilities included being available at Halloween to hand out candy to the kids and to "ooh and ahh" over all new babies born to people working at her home. Evelyn enjoyed looking nice and appropriate for her age. She was very proud of her snow white curly hair and had a hard time accepting when it needed to be trimmed. Evelyn was a strong woman who was not afraid to share her opinion with anyone. If you were on her list, she would make it clear that you were "feeble minded". She had spunk for life and enjoyed every opportunity to play tricks on those working with her. One of her favorite tricks was to bark like a dog. Evelyn also had a warm, caring, and fun loving side to her personality. If you were sick or not feeling well, Evelyn would pray for you to be healed. She was always the one to initiate singing "Happy Birthday" during parties. Two of her favorite hymns were "Jesus Loves Me" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". She enjoyed signing them with her staff and friends. Evelyn was also quite the dancer and loved to show off her moves. She was respected as "grandma" in every way. Evelyn was married to Walter Schardt on June 18,1980. She took pride telling others she would die a married woman committed to her marriage. Walter passed away in 2012. Evelyn loved her family very much and enjoyed talking about her seven brothers and sisters: Lester, Alan, Elizabeth, June, Rose, Carrie and Betty. She enjoyed putting flowers on her mother's grave in Waterville every year on Memorial Day. Evelyn passed away the morning of July 24th 2014 at the Madelia Hospital at the age 94. Evelyn was comforted knowing that her place of eternal rest would someday be in the same cemetery as her mother and sister, Elizabeth.
