Evangeline May 'Vangie' Harder

Evangeline 'Vangie' Harder was born June 10, 1922, in Mountain Lake Township, Cottonwood County to Eilert, Sr. and Gerdena (Siefkes) Strenge. She was united in marriage to Diedrich Harder on October 26, 1943, at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake. The couple lived in Butterfield where they did corn shelling and trucking. They then moved to a farm in Butterfield Township where they farmed until 1979, when they moved to Mountain Lake. Vangie will be remembered as a hard working farm wife who enjoyed gardening, canning, and raising African Violets. She loved traveling, driving her car and going out to eat, and especially enjoyed visiting her nieces and nephews. Evangeline 'Vangie' Harder died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake at the age of 93 years. She is survived by sister Florence 'Tootie' Snook of Crosby/Ironton; sisters-in-law- Loris and Grace Strenge of St. James; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Diedrich in 1989; brothers- George, Dick, Calvin, Eilert, John and Lawrence Strenge; sisters- Dena Carlson, AnnaBelle Olson, Margaret Rosenburg, Gretchen Huebsch, and Josephine Penner; and several nieces and nephews.
