Elvira Berberich

Elvira Mary Berberich, daughter of Louis Katherine (Rothmeier) Neidecker, was born December 20, 1934 at home in Sigel Township, MN. Elvira went to school in District 10 in Sigel Township, then to Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm and District 75 in Lake Hanska Township. Elvira married Leo Berberich at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm on November 10, 1954. They lived on a farm for one year, and then bought the Leavenworth store from Mrs. Altermatt in December of 1955. Elvira's husband Leo Berberich passed away in 1970. Elvira continued to run the store until July 1986 when she closed the store and moved to Sleepy Eye. Elvira worked at Erickson Grocery and part-time at the Family Cafe, Haas Bakery, Sales Barn and the Servicemen's Club and at the Erickson Freedom Station full-time from 1987 until November 2006. Elvira was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, Holy Family Society, Christian Mothers and the C.C.W. Elvira Mary (Neidecker) Berberich, age 72, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at Sleepy Eye Care Center. She is survived by her children; Lon of Henderson, Rhonda (Landis) Froehling of Hanska, Toby (Vicki) of Ankeny, IA and Renee (Lincoln) Simonson of Jeffers; grandchildren, Kristi, Kurt and Kory (Dani) Anderson, Walker Froehling, Joey Berberich, Ryan Fischer and Isaac Simonson, sisters, Elaine (Roland) Dauer of Hanska and Carol Schumacher of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, an infant son, daughter, Ramona and her parents. The family would prefer memorials.
